Biography

Dr. Ankisha Vijay joined the Department of Biotechnology, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, as an Assistant Professor in September 2022. Prior to joining JIIT, Dr. Ankisha served as a Research Scientist in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay and completed her postdoctoral research in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay.

She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering. Her doctoral research focused on developing sustainable biotechnological solutions for water pollution and energy generation, specifically targeting the simultaneous removal of uranium [U(VI)] and nitrate from nuclear wastewater using microbial fuel cells (MFCs).

Dr Ankisha is active in science outreach and selected for Young Investigator meet by India Bioscience (DBT organization) in 2025. Recently, she was honored with the prestigious "Prime Minister’s Early Career Award" by the ANRF (2025), Government of India, for carrying out research in microbial carbon capture cells for sustainable energy generation and wastewater treatment with the funding support of Rs. 67 Lakhs.

Research Highlights

Her areas of expertise include environmental engineering, wastewater treatment and bioremediation. Her research work involves in the field of wastewater treatment through bio-electrochemical systems, renewable bioenergy, and the use of microorganisms for mitigating environmental pollution and remediating toxic and hazardous waste. She is also working on microbial carbon capture cells for sustainable power generation and value-added product recovery from algae. Her research group is working towards electrode modification in bio-electrochemical system using different electrochemical approaches. Her research is focused on the interdisciplinary approach integrating microbiology, molecular biology and electrochemistry.
