Research Highlights

Dr. Kapil Dev Tyagi’s research centers on advanced signal processing and acoustic reflectometry, with applications in underwater and air acoustic systems. His notable work includes a patented system for direction-of-arrival estimation using a single sensor and reflector for acoustic pulse sources, granted in 2023 (Patent No. 476723). Another key contribution is his development of a system to classify underwater mammals based on age and gender using acoustic click data, addressing challenges in marine biology. His work on cavitation noise rejection using air as a discontinuity improves underwater measurement accuracy. Another significant contribution is his publication in IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (TGRS) on snow water equivalent determination using acoustic reflectometry, initially opposed by a distinguished Canadian professor and NASA scientists due to its novel methodology. After rigorous peer review and validation, the work was accepted and published in year 2020, demonstrating precise measurement of snow water content for environmental monitoring. With over ten consultancy projects and numerous publications, his work has practical implications in defense, marine, training and security sectors. Dr. Tyagi’s interdisciplinary approach, combining signal processing with real-world applications, continues to drive innovation in electronics and communication engineering.
