Biography

Dr. Prashant Chauhan did his Ph.D. degree titled “Filamentation of Laser Beams and Plasma Wave Excitation” in Laser Plasma Physics at Centre for Energy Studies, IIT Delhi in 2008. After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a project scientist for 1 year at Centre for Energy Studies, IIT Delhi. In April 2009, Dr. Prashant Chauhan received HiPER post doctorate fellowship from European Union and worked at Grupo de Laser Plasma, in Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon Portugal for 2 years. After that he received post doctorate fellowship from FCT Portugal (Portuguese Science and technology department) and worked at GoLP, IST, Lisbon for nine months till December 2011. During his post-doctoral tenure Dr. Prashant visited Rutherford Laboratory London, U.K., Dublin City University, Ireland and Czech Technical University, Prague, Czech Republic. Dr. Prashant Chauhan joined as senior lecturer in Department of Physics and Material Science and Engineering, JIIT Noida-128 in January 2012 and at present working as an Associate Professor in PMSE, JIIT Noida Wish Town Campus.

He has supervised 3 Ph.D. subtends in the field of surface plasmon application and THz generation. He has polished 55 research papers in international journals and presented 35 research papers in international and national conferences. He has also published 1 book and 3 book chapters. His major research interests are THz Generation, Surface Plasmon Application, Particle acceleration and Laser Plasma Interaction.

Research Highlights

His current research exhibits the study of nanoparticles embedded on metallic surfaces influence nonlinear laser absorption when subjected to external magnetic fields, shedding light on nanoscale energy transfer mechanisms and potential applications in surface-engineered photonic devices. Nonlinear optical effects in nanostructured metallic layers under ultrafast laser excitation, demonstrating how structural parameters influence harmonic generation and field localization.

Theoretical analysis of beam propagation through magnetized plasma channels incorporating relativistic and ponderomotive nonlinearities, offer a refined model for beam stability and confinement. Collectively, these works underscore Dr. Chauhan’s focused expertise in tailoring electromagnetic wave propagation through engineered media, with broad implications for THz source development, high-field photonics, and next-generation optical devices.
