Biography

Dr. RK Gopal is currently working as Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in Department of Physics and Material Science & Engineering at JIIT, Noida since July 2023. He obtained his MSc. from department of physics, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, and thereafter PhD from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER-Kolkata) under the supervision of Prof. Chiranjib Mitra. After finishing his PhD, he has been a postdoctoral fellow at several national institutes including Department of Physical Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc. Bangalore), IISER-Mohali, JNCASR-Bangalore and senior research associate at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. He has been working in the field of “Topological Quantum Matter” from last 12 years.

Research Highlights

At present Dr. Gopal is working on topological quantum materials, which includes three dimensional topological semimetals and topological insulators thin film and devices in two dimensions. His particular interest is in the low-temperature quantum transport measurements to investigate the role of disorder on the electronic transport of these topological quantum materials. Recently, he has started probing ultrafast Dirac fermion dynamics and their functionalities in the spintronics and photonic devices by utilizing microwave ST-FMR, Femtosecond spectroscopy and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy in collaboration with Prof. Chiranjib Mitra, Prof. Bipul Pal and Professor Kamraju at IISER-Kolkata. Furthermore, Dr. Gopal actively collaborates with IISER-Mohali, IACS-Kolkata, RRCAT-Indore, INST-Mohali and IISc-Bangalore in diverse fields of low power spintronics and other proximity related heterostructure devices based on topological quantum materials.
